Research&Planning - [Magazine cover analysis]

Genre- You can tell this by the band name, often by the appearance of the singer and many times there will be music instruments visible on the cover. You can also tell by the stories on the magazine cover and people mentioned such as Bastille and Beecake.

Representation- The band Imagine Dragons represent themselves as a casual group of friends rather than a bunch of business men stuck together due to assignments and aren't dressed in suits so are definitely not very classy. Some of the hair styles portrayed are maybe just a slight bit on the extreme side which many class as Emo hair. The background in the picture also seems like a house rather than a building or an office which would represent something totally different.

Audience- Teenagers are more likely to read magazines such as High Voltage due to the music genres, the appearance style represented. The age range of people reading this are most likely to be 13 and over, probably up to people in their 40s because indie music and alternate rock has been around for quite some time.

Media Language- The font style used is classed as eroded on Dafont.com and because of the two different colours it is quite a nice design which is quite eye catchy. The camera angle is quite basic, seems as though the photographer was crouching just a bit, the effect looks slightly exaggerated mainly because the band is on a higher platform two so the under chin/double chin area can be seen. The photographer also directed them all to have their face turned a bit so he can different head shots in one image. The shot type is not a medium close up, it is more like a medium long shot because the second guy up has almost a full body shot. This was probably done with an 50mm lens on a full frame pcamera, i can be wrong though.

Genre- The genre is Hip-Hop/Rap because it features Busta Rhymes on the cover who is well known for his rap music, this is because of his famous half rhymes and being able to rap for as long as he can with one breath.
Representation-Hip-Hop and Rap music is often represented by African Americans(Black People). Tattoos often represent grime and crime which is often the subject of rap music.
Audience-The audience in my opinion would be teenagers and mainly adults due to the graphic images the lyrics represent and create in the listeners mind. Most of todays rap is about crime, murders, drugs and girls which isn't something that kids should be exposed to so I would best on the mature audience, the main story is about murder that is enough proof.
Media Language-The main colour used for the logo and as well as the Mast Head is red which often represents blood and explicit content, the red colour is also used on the 18+ Pegi rating logo which basically indicates the content is not suitable for young people. The fonts used are bold and eye catchy. The stories above and below the mast head will definitely attract people who have the stomach for crime or at least who think they do.

Use of eye catchy colours to grab the consumers/audiences attention. A consistent theme used through out the magazine cover. All coverup lines relate to teen life for example "I SLEPT WITH MY PROFESSOR". A young persons portrait attracts a younger audience and students.
